BAIC is one of China's founding vehicle manufacturers: a state-scale industrial group whose off-road line has been in continuous production since the 1960s.
Origins
From theJinggangshan
BAIC was founded in 1958 and built the Jinggangshan, one of the first passenger cars made in China. Eight years later the BJ212 entered production and established the upright, mechanical off-road shape that the BJ line still carries today.

Beijing Jeep Corporation, formed in 1983, was China's first automotive joint venture. Beijing Hyundai followed in 2002 and Beijing Benz in 2003, bringing modern platforms, process discipline and quality systems into the group. In 2009 BAIC acquired Saab platform and engine intellectual property.

The group operates vehicle plants across China and a research and development network covering body structure, powertrain and electrification. A 2018 joint venture with Magna added contract engineering and manufacturing for high-end electric vehicles.
Competition
Proven atthe Dakar
Between 2021 and 2023 BAIC contested the Dakar Rally with cars based on the BJ40 Plus platform — the same body-on-frame architecture sold to customers, tested over the hardest terrain in motorsport.
